2020 marks a new stage for the most popular maxi scooter in the europe and in the world. By climbing in cubic capacity and in power, the Yamaha TMAX 560 becomes the swiftest of the line while meeting the Euro5 standard and despite a slight weight gain. Available in standard or TMAX Tech version, it also sees its price increase.
Still the king
The Yamaha TMAX has been able, from its very beginnings, to create a market segment on its own. You just have to analyze the registration statistics to realize it … Clearly, year after year, it remains the best selling maxi scooter and also the most popular maxi scooter in Europe. Whether we like it or not, it is a fact, there is the Yamaha TMAX and the others. More than a reference maxi scooter, it has simply become an iconic model. And let there be no mistake, its success has aroused many lusts.
Revised design
What is obvious is the new rear end of this Tmax 2020. The previous one had widened, forgetting that stern pointing towards the aggressive sky which had characterized it until then. The tail light worked in a T shape, with the central cabochon cut like a precious stone illuminating when braking, has its effect. However, this remains wiser than a 2015 for example, similarly at the front, where only the indicators with large cabochons are replaced by LEDs in the vertical position, inserted in the fairing. We also note that the famous lateral “boomerangs” have been refined, which contributes to lightening its profile. In short, there is a bit of a mischievous spirit (not to say bad boy!) Which makes the DNA of the model, but more mature. No complaints for the finishes, there are always some visible screws but difficult to do otherwise. Beware of the seat cover and the central tunnel, which mark quickly. Note that the trunk and tank hatch opening buttons are now matte black, not shiny metal. We regret a little that there was not a slightly more fun color, even a yellow “birthday” for the almost 20 years of 2001.
Comfort
The changes on the line are slightly felt in terms of life on board. The TMAX 560 retains, more or less, the volume of the previous 530 model. The saddle peaks at 800 mm. Enough to ensure satisfactory accessibility to almost all sizes. On the other hand, the seat remains of a considerable width and this is felt at the level of the arch in the crotch. In fact, if you are less than 1.75m tall, you will not be able to put at least one foot flat on the ground.
Increased engine power now to 560
With 32 cm3 more thanks to an increase in the piston bore of about 2 mm, the Yamaha TMAX reached 562 cm3 in 2020. An increase in displacement which is accompanied by some internal parts changes: pistons forged in aluminum, new intake valves (thanks to the larger bore), combustion chamber optimized accordingly, and complete work on the exhaust line which receives a reinforced catalytic device, requires Euro5. This change also affects the weight of the exhaust line, which has taken around 1.4 kg.
Overall
The Yamaha TMAX 560 may remain an indisputable must, it really appears very expensive today, but Yamaha statistics demonstrate it: TMAX customers are naturally moving towards the most upscale and most expensive version… The Iwata’s manufacturer therefore has every interest in going in this direction, confirmed by the figures.
